O2 sensers - HELP
I have a 1996 Avenger with the 2.5 l. V-6. It has 2 - O2 sensors with 1 before the cat and the other after. My CHECK ENGINE lite came on..bought a code reader and got P0134 code - BANK 1, SENSOR 1 signal remains at center. I replaced the one BEFORE the cat with the OEM part (NTK) and I cleared the codes. worked ok for about 60 km and light came on with SAME code ... Did I change the proper sensor or is it the one AFTER the cat??. The code reader also showed a few 'tests' that did NOT COMPLETE - Catalyst monitoring - Evaporative system monitoring - Oxygen Senser Monitoring - Oxygen Senser Heater Monitoring - all the other tests completed. Apparently in 1996 models, all these 'tests' are always CLEARED when the ignition is turned off. Then they have to be re-tested when you turn the key on/runl. I heard there was a TSB on this where a dealer MUST re-program the computer to correct this problem and that it had a LIFETIME WARRANTY???? Anyone???

The voltage is correct BUT having been told by NAPA and a Dodge Dealer here that a 1996 Avenver V-6 ONLY had 2- O2 sensors..1 before and 1 after the cat, I found a total of 4 ... and they are in same place as a 1997-2000 parts manual shows. Also I cannot do the 'key dance' on my 1996. Is it possible that the factory used all 1997 components (end of the 1996 line???) .. how do I check for years on parts.. computer, etc.?
The error code I get is P0134 - inactive sensor - BANK 1, Sensor 1. This one must be the sensor on the manilfold between the head and firewall correct??? I replace the one before the cat as I was told there were only 2 on this model/year
