Default Cruise control

I checked all of the vacuum lines and all are good. A forum search has indicated that the relay could be bad. Oem relays are 60-80 dollars. I have heard some of you say that you can use radio shack relays in some applications. Is there a cheap generic relay that I can use? I don't want to buy one and it not be my problem. I can get a 40 amp 4 prong from China for 5 bucks for a test. Your thoughts please.

I know the firewall relays are replaceable with bosche style 30a relays unsure about the cruise relay.
What is it not doing ?

if you suspect the relay , I'd go to a junkyard and grab one they fall into my toolbox when there

My cruise light in the dash comes on at engine start with the bulb check. When driving, my cruise switch left of the steering wheel lights up when switched to on. When I try to set the cruise with the paddle, nothing happens and the dash light does not come on. Also, the nearest good junkyard is an hour away and the nearest pick-a-part is 2 hours away.

I removed and checked the relay. It seems to be ok. It is not a normal relay because it is normally closed and most are normally open. When you power the relay it opens the secondary circuit which is backwards to how most relays function.I may have some important info that I forgot. If the cruise senses that the brake is depressed it will not come on. When I did the obd check at auto zone there was a code P0703 which is a brake circuit fault. Maybe there is a switch on the pedal that is preventing the cruise from engaging. Any ideas or help is much appreciated.

On my avenger, the brake switch has two circuits. One for the stop lights and one for the cruise control. My switch needs adjusting because it's telling the cruise control that the brake is applied. While driving yesterday, I pulled back on the brake pedal and set the paddle and the cruise control engaged normally.

I adjusted the brake switch today. The cruise control is now fully functional. So glad it wasn't something expensive.

Worked great for a while. Today the cruise control shut off on the highway and I turned it back on and it shut off after a few seconds and now it won't light up at all. Any ideas? Is there a dedicated fuse?

I don't recall a dedicated fuse ( my manuals not handy)
is the light coming on at all ? is the relay getting power still ?
this sounds weird but does the reverse light work?

I read a lot last time I worked on it. My reverse lights work and my horn works. I read somewhere that it was piggybacked on the horn circuit or the reverse light circuit. I'm wondering if the main switch on the dash went bad because it won't light up at all. I am getting voltage to the dash switch. I checked with a meter. I read on the dsm forum that the real cruise relay is built into the dash switch. The one under the hood has another purpose I would guess. Is there a module in the kick panel like the one in an eclipse?

I'd disassemble the switch and clean it , I had troubles with mine and cleaned up fine
