Default 96 Avenger Battery Light

My instrument panel battery light is on all the time, but I can not see anything wrong. The battery is OK, the alternator is charging. The battery is not draining at all.

When I start the car the battery light is off, after a few seconds (around when the SRS light turns off) the battery light comes on, and stys on for as long as the ignition is on, driving or not.

Anyone have any idea or have had the same experience?

Thank you.

How are you determining the battery and alternator are ok?

Good question.
I did a regulated voltage test now and I get only a steady13 Volt, running at idle rpm and up to 2500 rpm. No change in the voltage. Is this the reason for the light? Low voltage?

Not6 sure what you mean by a "regulated voltage test", but you should measure the voltage at the alternator. Should be putting out 14-14.5 volts while the engine is running. Then measure the at the battery, it should be approx. the same. Tghen measure the battery volltage with the engine off, should be 12 or slightly above.

I measure a steady 13 Volt all places when running at various rpm. I get 12.7 Volt when engine is stopped.
Is 13 Volt so low that the battery light is on?

It could very well be. You can take it to an auto parts store and have the system load tested for free.

Would the answer be a new alternator?

It could be the alternator or the regulator (outboard of the alternator)

I would think that the light should not be on at 13 Volt, I would not expect the light on before the voltage dropped below 12 Volt? Do you know at what setting the light goes on, and where is the signal coming from?

Thank you.

The signals sent from the computer , I have no idea on the setting or voltage as it's in the programming
