You're better off with the I4. Seriously. The V6 is not that much faster, especially if you have a manual. Anyway, I'm looking at it from a "modify" point of view. There are many things out there for the 420a as compared to the 6G73. I had the V6 and I had it removed in favor of an I4. Granted it's the awd turbo I4 of the Eclipse GSX but it's an I4

So what engines are compatible to do a engine swap?

Well, "compatibility" is used per person and per dollar. In other words, you can transplant just about any motor that will physically fit into that engine bay with the right amount of money. But if you want to keep it easy, then I would recommend keeping what you have in there and building that to go faster (that seems to be more popular and more cost effective). Again, there are many "go fast" aftermarket parts for that 420a. Keeping in mind that the Eclipse also uses that motor and there are plenty of them with high hp. I would recommend that you check out some DSM sites.
What are your plans, as far as hp is concerned...what is it exactly that you're looking for? Let's start there, you're question is too common.

Well I was lookin at a new crate motor short block 2.2stroker 420a with core for 2,399.95 on howellautomotive.com but see I want a engine with low miles and I wanna customize it 2 be fast I dont want it 2 be like really fast, I want 2 get a turbo charger for it and like have headers, cold air intake, full cat back exhaust, and some other things but yeah like how much did you pay for your gsx motor and 2 get it all 2 customize with your avenger?

Well, that stroker motor is a built motor. That means you can build up from there. That 2.2 isn't a slacker by any means. You want a turbo with a header and turboback..you can do that with that motor. It's not about speed btw, it's about horsepower. That 2.2 is nothing but a overbored 2.0 420a also, and a good example of what your 420a can be. Just because your internals are fried, doesn't mean the block is useless.
Mine was $6k+the mods that are on it now.
