I don't like to use hand/dish soap on cars that is. Then again, I don't use dish/hand soap for anything car related, even the interior, just personal preferrence. I suppose you can use hand soap though or none at all if you can remember to keep water on the sandpaper and lens. I would rather use some soap as opposed to none though. So I guess my answer would be "yes", lol.

aha... so you suggesting car soap.... i will take your advice to consideration. i jus want to know how much do car soap costs and do i also get it in auto car shops like the ones that i mentioned before?

p.s - i noticed you keep saying lens, im lil confused about that word. by saying lens - do you mean the headlight covers, the plastic cover that im talking about? i just wanna make sure were on the same page.

Car wash soap is probably ~$5.00 and yeah, you can get them at car shops/parts stores.
By headlight lens, I'm referring to that piece of plastic that is connected to the headlight housing (the gray piece with the adjustments on it). I'm not referring to any easily removable headlight "cover" made by GTO or any other brand like that. The headlight lens I'm referring to is clipped to and sealed to the headlight housing. Are we on the same page then?...or are you talking about an actual cover that protects the lens?

okay, im happy that we got that car soap thing clear. those things can add up, sand paper, car soap, scrach remover, lol.
now to the lens part again. by lens - i mean to that plastic cover that is connected to the headlight from the outside, but im not sure about the gray piece with the adjumnets on i. you say that the lens that you mean is the clippled adn sealed to the headlight housing, and it seems like you are talking about what im thinking{the front cover plastic cover of the headlight, where i have to rub the sand paper} right?

Correct, that was my impression
I guess what you call a cover is what I call a lens. That plastic part of the headlight is what I'm talking about.

To me, a cover is another piece that goes over the headlight lens. Like these

and this is what it is called....
EGR Headlight Covers
App: 2004 - 2004 Dodge Pick Up Full Size Headlight Covers

or these...

Ventshade Headlight Covers
App: 1996 - 1996 Mitsubishi Eclipse Headlight Covers
Brand: Ventshade. The Ventshade product line includes Color Match Products Tailshades, Ventshade Tailshades 2 and Windflector.

Those are headlight covers

Have the same problem with the right front head light.

So, cooking oil is okay to use?

hey everyone the wet sanding works. I got new headlights like 6 months ago. Than like a few weeks ago I was boured so I pulled out the old head lights. Gave them a lil sanding and than went over with a couple layers of rubbing compound and they look great now. Not as good as my new ones but getting pretty close. Think I will ebay them or something now. Cleaning is a lot cheaper then buying the $200 jdm ones off of ebay.
