Had a similar problem and it was the starter. You can take the starter out and take it to autozone or a shop and they will test it for you. To get to the starter you will have to drop the exhaust. It is basically beside the oil filter when you look under your car. After trade in it cost about $150.

Here's another troubleshooting help.
Can you hear your fuel pump when you turn the key to ACC? If not your ASD relay may be dead or it may have gotten disconnected since it's by the battery area.

*edit*
There is a pack of relays on the firewall...either 3 or 4, mine had 4, while some had 3, look there.
Also, I recommend getting a Haynes/Chilton's book if you don't already have one...get both. Why? Because one touches on a topic or area while the other goes into detail about the same thing and vice versa. I've got both, so, that's why I say that, to include the tech manual or shop manual. $80 worth and worth every bit. You don't have to spend that much but the two store bought manuals would be a good start.

yeah...it's fixed...electrical problem...the guy that fixed my car took off the ground from the alternator and put the cable directly to the alternator which didn't allow the battery to charge. So I will be getting my Avenger back either the 17th or the 18th...my mechanic is checking out a clicking noise that is coming from my right rear for me tomorrow. Hope I get my car back tomorrow!! I miss her!!

Reason why I don't let "mechanics" touch my car.
If I work on my car, there's only myself to blame and I'm not on any time limit or rush to get another car in so that I can get paid.

X2..............If you do everything yourself then you know it is done properly---or half-assed....either or you have no labor bill and no one to blame but yourself. If you dont know it then learn it!

What does the factory service manual for the avenger run?

$14-$16. Not high at all. I bought both Hayne's and Chilton's and found that they compliment each other. I also have the shop manual and besides the electrical diagrams, the Hayne's/Chilton's will cover whatever car troubles you may have.
