Default homelink

Who can give me a crash course in how to program the homelink.................WHAT A COOL FEATURE!!!! If I only had 50,000 more dollars I couldve bought the Mercedes that went with the homelink LOL.

I dont want to break it, mine has a good battery I assume, but how does it come apart so you can change it if I need to? I didnt look too close but I assume there is a slot somewhere where it snaps together, Ill have to check.

It's powered by the car battery, so no need to change anything on it.
As far as programming...clear it by holding down the two outer buttons until the LED flashes which lets you know when it's reset. Next (I would park the car away from your garage) take your garage door opener and put it about an inch away from the homelink, press the opener at the same time press whichever button you want to program (I did the middle), it will flash twice when it's programmed, it will also take up to a minute to program.
If you have a code jumping garage door opener, then you will have to hold the homelink button of your choice while pressing the garage door opener for a second...release the garage door opener...press the garage door opener again for a second...repeat until homelink is programmed. This part may take a good deal of time because you may have to try and program homelink more than 3 times, lol. Each time you try, you may want to reset homelink each time.

So, non-code hopping technology...
- reset homelink, press both remotes, wait till homelink LED flashes...done

with code hopping tech...
- reset homelink, press both remotes, wait a second and release garage remote only - immediately press again (don't release homelink button), do this until homelink LED flashes....done

Hey Todd, here's some more instructions that I found for you. They vary a bit from my info, but that's how I got mine to work and it's similar to these instructions.
1. Press and hold the two outside buttons releasing only when the indicator light begins to flash after 20 seconds. (This procedure erases the factory-set default codes and does not have to be followed to train additional hand-held transmitters).

2. Hold the end of the hand-held transmitter of the device you wish to train approximately 2 to 5 inches away from the surface of HomeLink keeping the indicator light in view. (For placement questions, please contact HomeLink at 1-800-355-3515 oron the Internet at HomeLink.jci.com.)

3. Using both hands, simultaneously push the hand-held transmitter button and the desired HomeLink button. Do not release the buttons until step 4 has been completed. Note: Some entry gates and garage door openers may require you to replace this step (#3) with the procedures noted in the section "canadian Programming"

4. The HomeLink indicator light will flash, first slowly and then rapidly. When the indicator light flashes rapidly, both buttons may be released. (The rapid flashing light indicates successful programming of the new frequency signal.)

To program the remaining two buttons, follow steps 2 through 4.

If after repeated attempts you do not successfully program the HomeLink Universal Transceiver to learn the signal of the hand-held transmitter, refer to "Rolling Code Programming" within this text or call toll-free for customer assistance at 1-800-355-3515 or on the Internet at HomeLink.jci.com.

Operating the HomeLink® Universal Transceiver

To operate, simply press the programmed HomeLink button. Activation will now occur for the trained product (garage door, security system, entry door lock, estate gate, or home or office lighting). For convenience, the hand-held transmitter of the device may also be used at any time.

Rolling Code Programming

To train a garage door opener (or other rolling code devices) with the rolling code feature, follow these instructions after completing the "Programming" portion of this text (a second person may make the following training procedures quicker & easier.)

1. Locate the training button on the garage door opener motor head unit. Exact location and color of the button may vary by garage door opener brand. If there is difficulty locating the training button, reference the garage door opener owner's manual or contact HomeLink at 1-800-355-3515 or on the Internet at HomeLink.jci.com.

2. Press the "training" button on the garage door opener motor head unit (which activates the "training" light). Note: Following step 2, there are 30 seconds in which to initiate step 3.

3. Firmly press and release the programmed HomeLink button. Press and release the HomeLink button a second time to complete the training process. (Some garage door openers may require you to do this procedure a third time to complete the training.) The garage door opener should now recognize the HomeLink Universal Transceiver and the door should now activate when the HomeLink button Is pressed. The remaining two buttons may now be programmed if this has not previously been done. Refer to the "Programming" portion of this text.

The HomeLink Universal Transceiver (once programmed) or the original hand-held transmitter may be used to activate the device (e.g. garage door, entry door lock, etc.). In the event that there are still programming difficulties, contact HomeLink at 1-800-355-3515 or on the Internet at HomeLink.jci.com.

Erasing Programmed HomeLink® Buttons

Individual buttons cannot be erased; however, to erase the three programmed buttons:

1. Press and hold the two outside buttons until the indicator light begins to flash after 20 seconds.

2. Release both buttons.

The HomeLink Universal Transceiver is now in the train (or learning) mode and can be programmed at any time following steps 2 through 4 in the "Programming" portion of this text.

Reprogramming a Single HomeLink® Button

To program a device to HomeLink using a HomeLink button previously trained, follow these steps:

1. Press and hold the desired HomeLink button. Do NOT release until step 4 has been completed.

2. When the indicator light begins to flash slowly (after 20 seconds), position the hand-held transmitter 2 to 5 inches away from the HomeLink surface.

3. Press and hold the hand-held transmitter button.

4. The HomeLink indicator light will flash, first slowly and then rapidly. When the indicator light begins to flash rapidly, release both buttons.

The previous device has now been erased and the new device can be activated by pushing the HomeLink button that has just been pro- grammed. This procedure will not affect any other programmed HomeLink buttons.

Canadian Programming

During programming, your hand-held transmitter may automatically stop transmitting. Continue to press and hold the HomeLink button (note steps 2 through 4 in the "Programming" portion of this text) while you press and re-press ("cycle") your hand-held transmitter every two seconds until the frequency signal has been learned. The indicator light will flash slowly and then rapidly after several seconds upon successful training.

Note: If programming a garage door opener or gate, it is advised to unplug the device during the "cycling" process to prevent possible motor burn-up.
Hope that helps bro.
