has anyone put a REAL turbo on their 2.0 avengers
im looking on ebay just for the hell of it and noticed that there are turbos out there for the 420a engine in the non-turbo eclipses..... will those fit in the avenger's engine bay or what.....if anyone has done this to their car wether successfull or not let me know thanks
The Eclipse engine bay is the same as ours. Ours IS just a tad longer and I mean JUST a tad, but nothing noticable...bottom line, if it has been put on the Eclipse's 420, then it can go in the Avenger's 420 and yes, it has been done quite a few times. My advice is to not buy a turbo from ebay because some of them aren't even worth the shipping price. Do a lot of research on turbo's and you won't regret it.
thanks silver, and i checked out ur ride and all i can say is im impressed. if i had the money id do the same thing but as it looks right now i guess im stranded with an avenger that needs......a lot of work.
slakr: just to go a step further from what silvercoupe97 stated, the 420 motor is actually the same one from the Eclipse....as the 3.0L V6 in my Stratus R/T is the same one thats in the 3rd gen Eclipses....
You can very easily turbo this motor....and if you can...I'd suggest finding a motor in a junkyard that you can snag and tear down and rebuild up on a stand or table. I say this so that you know it's a direct bolt up to your current car...but it gives you the opportunity to make sure the motor is up to snuff while still having your car to drive. I've been considering an Eclipse turbo'd motor swap for my Stratus.....and its the exact same thing I'll be doing.
Listen to silvercoupe....the guy knows his stuff.....and can probably give you some good places to look for info...

Thanks slakr and DR. DR brings up a good point about the motor too. I would get a spare motor too and build it up, while you still have a good working motor to drive around with. If you get just a turbo kit, make sure you don't turn the boost up past 10psi...I suggest staying in the 5-7psi range for a stock internal motor though, you too DR...at least until the internals are replaced and the head gasket replaced with a four layer metal gasket and ARP head studs.

These guys can turbo your 420 slakr. It's a good deal considering that you don't have to go and get stuff made or worry about fitment or even worry about forgetting parts and pieces.
I found this for you DR, probably won't help because I'm sure you've done a lot of research on this anyway, but just in case bro..

I know you know about this thread DR. That's what probably got you thinking about the feasibility of forced induction on your car
I remember researching all this stuff before the conversion and thought about how sweet it would be to be boosted! To be honest with you guys, when I first got my car back, it was at stock boost level of 11-12psi which would equate somewhat to 5-7psi on your motors....and it was just freaking awesome! If and when you guys get a chance to do something like this...you'll wonder why you didn't do it sooner

Oh yeah, just a word of warning................boost is addictive!!! Moderation is best and will keep you from blowing your motor up.
u know silver im sure ur sick of hearing this by now but if it wasnt for u i wouldnt b able to find any of this crap on my own.....ill hafta keep that in mind when im finished with the body work....(freakin rust!!) but yeah, thanks so very much for the info
