Default exhaust keeps over heating

My 97 dodge avenger es would cut off everytime i pressed on the gas pedal. I have just replaced the cat-converter,distributor,distributor cap & rotor, spark plugs & wires, know it doesn,t cut off but stutters & exhaust heats up,still getting a misfire from somewhere. I'm told the avenger has two converters do you think the other converter is clogged & needs replaced

Help,

im not too sure that the exhause is your problem, that sounds more like an air/fuel problem

Your car has two precats one on each downpipe and are just past the each exhaust manifold (front and back). There are also two o2 sensors just past those precats (one on each), plus the cat, have your computer read. Also have your EGR system checked because those go bad too. Pull a plug out and check it's condition...a lean will leave white tips on the plug, rich will leave fuel on the plug...brownish color means combustion is good. Check your upstream o2 sensors per Haynes/Chiltons manual.

I'm really not sure what you mean by hot exhaust though, since the exhaust is supposed to be hot.
*edit*
Another thought, have you changed out your PCV valve? It might be clogged. Make sure all your vacuum lines are reconnected.
