What are the pro's and cons of having coil overs? I want to avoid a stiff ride

Judging by the last statement...stay away from coilovers. Coilovers are shorter springs and therefore will have shorter travel and since it has to have a shorter travel, they are made to suspend X amount of weight with less coils = stiff. Springs are naturally longer, even lowering springs...stick with the springs, they will keep you closer to a stock ride.

I don't mind a firm ride. Just as long as it doesn't turn into a harsh feeling ride. I was hoping to find out coil over is the best way to make my car turn better and keep the body roll to a minimum without sacraficing too much of my smooth ride.

Yes, you can get both a comfortable ride and good cornering from a coilover package, but if you look around, they start at $800 and work their way up to, well...as much as you're willing to spend. Most of the "newer" Avenger owners don't have a wallet that deep though and my suggestions lean towards that end most of the time because of it.
Buying seperate shocks and then coilover springs don't tend to cost as much as "real" coilovers and then they are so generically stiff that most are kidney busters.
Buying seperate shocks and then lowering springs will offer you what you are looking for. For daily street driven cars, it's fine. For closed circuit cars, coilover packages are what you want....are you willing to pay to play is the question

as far as coilover go
if youre going to do it as silvercoupe said do it right
tien setups for the 95-99 eclipse work well dont do the electronic dampening control lots of cutting needed in the strut tower
then the correct camber kits...ingalls work well
then an alignment

So are you saying that the shock tower needs to be modified to accept the pillow ball mounts?

I didn't think the EDFC would fit without pillow ball mounts since the PBM lowers the strut all together.
Tein recommends them for use with the EDFC too.

yes you need the pillowball to use the edfc but you also need to do some cutting on a veng in order to use it
and the edfc and only be used with the flex or superstreet setups (with pb mounts)
