Default Front brake rotors

I just took my 1998 Avenger ES to the dealer, (big mistake) for brake work, and was told that my front rotors need to be replaced @ $120.00 each for parts alone. Total for pads and rotors was in excess of $550.00. They told me that the Avenger needs specific rotors, because it is a "Sports" car, and that aftermarket parts wont perform properly. Okay, is it because I look stupid, or because I am a girl?

Does anyone have a recommendation for the types of rotors and pads for a 98 avenger with the 17" alloy wheels?

Hey!
Go to any store that sells parts in your city! Ask them to price the front rotors set! If you want you can surf e-bay and get yourself a set of drilled/slotted aftermaret rotors (I think you can get pads with it too sometimes)! Don't sweat going to dealership anymore (they think people are stupid, and not because of the gender difference! ) The other part is to find a place to install all the parts you have (can be expensive, so shop wisely)! I mean you can try to install everything yourself, or find a guy who is nice enough to help you out (maybe b/f).

P.S. silvercoupe97 is a good guy he might help you out with installation

HOLY COW! I did a brake upgrade for 300 with performance rotors and everything! Dang!! I got crossdrilled and slotted rotors from irotors.com - they sell a lot on ebay. Mine are brembo and I like them.

rotors at autozone or something like that are like 20-30 a piece. Do yourself a favor if you can find a set that have a hole in the front to put a screw in. So if you ever have to take them off again you just find a screw that size and crank it in.. and the rotor comes off a lot easier. Not all rotors have that screw hole, its a blessing! Pads are like 20-45 (depending on if you get fancy ceramic ones that don't leave break dust - I've been happy with morse and raybestos). Thats all you need.

Brakes aren't extremely hard to do yourself, but you do need help bleeding them (unscrewing something and pushing a petal). The If you don't already have the book clinton/haynes, its a good investment its got a photo play by play! If you do decide to go your own, I'd even post directions.

the rotors have probably never been off, so that means they are probably rusted on there good (unless you live someplace warm!) if you don't have a big muscle guy to help you with that you might get stuck like I did.

If anyone EVER tells you that you need $550 worth of front brake work done....tell them to kiss your *** and walk. If all they are telling you is that you need new front rotors and pads....then you shouldnt be spending more then $250....period.

The reason I say $250 is because depending on what kind of pads and rotors you chose to go with....is how much it would cost you. Personally, I'll never spend more then that on brakes unless its something majorly wrong.

They are overcharging you on the rotors and I would also assume the pads as well. I'd ask for a printout of the charges of everything they are wanting to charge you.

You can easily pick up a decent set of rotors and brakes for under $200....pay someone you know and trust to do your brakes another $100....and your still $250 short of what they're charging....

Or...you do them yourself and have someone show you....it's relatively easy and I try to help anyone I know do them....save some money....and buys me dinner

Yea exactly, I only spent 300 on mine because I got new calipers in there too. I put on the eclipse upgrade. I also got the back rotors not just the front!
