Default squeaking belt/shredding

I have a '96 Dodge Avenger ES 2.5.....A month ago the serpentine belt started to squeal when I accelerated for a couple of seconds...then the car would warm up and it would stop..i took it to a dealer and he told me all it needed was some belt dressing...in about a week it shredded and I replaced it. Well this belt started to squeal and it broke today...does anyone know what in the world is going on...i'm not mechanically inclined and i have no idea what it could be...

Default RE: squeaking belt/shredding

Welcome Shy_violet.

I think that either you have too much tension or that one of your pullies is offset. What has happened to your car recently? Any accidents, big bumps in the road, or left over tools under the hood?
