Avenger problem (stalls at lower rpms)
Hi, I am new to this forum and a pure fan of anything stamped "Diamond Motor Corp". I've fallen in love with them after driving a 3.0 dodge shadow (with mitsu motor) and then the 3000GT vr4 i bought (and sold
) later. I am about to purchase a 96 dodge avenger from a private owner and according to the owners, it stalls when stopping, letting off the gas or whenever the gas pedal is not pressed. I looked at the car it shows no sign of physical wear and for $800 it seems to be a great bargain. The new parts installed were as follows - New timing belt, distributor, exhaust manifold kit and master cylinder, the car is 96 dodge avenger ES with the 2.5l motor (non turbo/modified). I was hoping some of you who have had the problem/fixed it could tell me what would be the best way to test what it is or what needs to be replaced. From other posts information I have gathered the TPS, the EGR valve, and the PCM. Please help!! I am looking forward to being a proud owner of a dodge avenger and plan on doing the 3.0l motor swap later on. I don't have the money atm and need to get the 2.5l able to run and drive efficiently!

Those items pretty much sums it up, lol. I would check the spark plugs and wires too, not to mention the plug gaps. Also, the upstream o2 sensors can cause it to die at idle.
the owner atm said they did some kind of suction cleaning to the entire fuel supply/intake system
i don't know if this included the throttle body, what would be good for cleaning out the throttle body/intake, that seafoam stuff?
