Default Avenger 2.0 Engine Swap

I was doing some thinking about the motors I could put in a 1996 Dodge Avenger with the 2.0 DOHC motor. The first and probably most obvious choice for this I thought was the 4g63, from either an EVO or an Eclipse, I would want the turbocharged. But, the AWD would present a problem, and would be costly, and the turbo 4g63 from the eclipse seems like it wont pack enough power. I know the 4g63 can be done, I have seen it. But what my quesion was, since I havent seen it done, is, can you swap an SRT-4 2.4 DOHC turbo motor into an Avenger? It is the best choice for power and for the drivetrain. If this is possible, it is definatly what I am going to do, if not the 4g63 will be the way to go. Thanks for all your help!

Default RE: Avenger 2.0 Engine Swap

I believe the SRT-4's 2.4 is too tall, just like the EVO 4-9 4g63 motor. I have seen a mix of the 2.4 put into our cars, but not the SRT-4 motor alone.
The 4g63 from an Eclipe/Talon is your best bet for power and the only motor that will fit without doing a part and piece hunt. Yes, 210hp is what is recorded for federal purposes, but it doesn't stop there. The stock motor can handle around 400-450hp and some have stated it being capable of 500 with the stock forged internals. I will go with the 400-450hp range but not so much with the 500hp range. The AWD swap is not "costly" or that much harder to do. All you do is follow the AWD swap done on Eclipse/Talons and add a tiny bit of length to the driveshaft.

Btw, my car is now equiped with a 4g63t and AWD from an Eclipse GSX
