Default Blown tweeter on 1998 avenger with infinity sound

I have a 1998 avenger with the infinity sound system. The tweeters are mounted on the dash by the windshield and they are both blown. I just installed a pair of 6.5 speakers in the front doors but their tweeters are bypassed because of the factory tweeters and sothose speakersonly have bass output so they dont sound very good at all. I dont think there is really any replacement tweeters available that anyone sells where it would be an easy swap right? How do I just bypass the factory tweeters and just use the tweeters on the door speakers I just installed? Thanks for any help

Bose 601's on EBAY

Or would this be an easy swap out? If it did fit, would I just have to splice two wires together?

Hello Nelson and welcome to DF.
Yes those Bose 601's will fit in there and work and so will 301's and 501's. You are correct about the wires.
Here's a thread on the speakers too btw.

Also, to bypass the buit-in crossover in the stock amp, you have to bypass the amp all together. You can do this if you have an aftermarket headunit.
The speaker outputs are split in the amp. You can rerun the wires, that go to the tweeters, and solder them into the new 2/3 way speakers (to the tweeters and not the woofer) and at the same time, the woofer should be wired up the way it is now. That's a headache. It's so much easier to just get those bose and call it a day, until you get an aftermarket headunit.

What kind of 6.5 did you put in? I'm not sure what impedance those 601 partials are, or any other important specs for that matter.

Thanks for the quick response silvercoupe. I went ahead and bought them and we will see how they sound or to see if i want to go ahead and rewire because I do have an aftermaket HU. I got this one http://www.crutchfield.com/S-hWgf3aE...p;I=023MONTERR

And to robert, I have these 6.5's. http://www.crutchfield.com/S-hWgf3aE...mp;I=023GTX652

Only problem I see is that that Bose is an 8ohm impedance and the stock dodge speaker is a 2ohm impedance. It will work but let us hope that the stock amp is stable to 2ohm impedance.

I got my bose speaker today. Fits in the dash opening but the cover doesn't fit over it. I just took the metal screen off off ofthe cover and just set it on the tweeter to cover it. looks ok. Second, they are very LOUD! Louder than the rest of the system I have to fade the sound more towards the rear to lower systemm. Any other things I can do? Also just noticed the right tweeter is louder than the left by alot. Well it isn't the tweeter, it is the connection because i flipped tweeters and i still had problem. Dont know how can resolve this, i had to set my HU balance to the left alittle. They sound better than the stock tweeters did though

Hi,
i have bought brand new MTX 6 1/2" 2-Way Car Speakers (TX6) for my intrepid 98. In the post you mention that the crossover is done directly in the amplifier for the infinity tweeter. If i replace the infinity tweeter with the mtx tweeter, do i need to put the crossover somewhere or i can let the amplifier do the job.

Or i would need to bypass the amplifier for the front speaker and install mtx woofer + crossover and the tweeter.....

ah yes, can anyone confirm to me which wire is the positive and negative (the color) on the speaker side....i can find a lot of schema for the ampli color and the radio color wire but not for the speaker sides

tx

the crossover will take care of it , I'd remove the stock frequency cut off limiter and place it across the new tweeter , observe polarity, to protect the new tweeter
