More eclipse help....just a different guy
Ok, my friend just bought a 95 GST eclipse off of e-bay.He got it shipped up here to Michigan from North Carolina. Its a really nice looking car, and he got a good price on it.Heres the problem.....he knew when he bought it that it had a rod knock...hence the good price(1000 bucks).Anyways, he got it today, and called everyone he knew hoping to get someone to fix the problem. No one wants to deal with it.Hes called 7 people just today and no one is willing to work on the car.
So we decided to look for a engine for it....since its probably easier to swap them out.My question is, to save money, would it be possible to buy a non-turbo engine, and put the new turbo thats on the engine he has on the non-tubo engine? We found one with a turbo for 1500 bucks, we found a non-turbo out of a 99 eclipse for 500 with 87,000 miles on it.What kind of problems can we expect to run into with this swap if its possible.
I know this is a dodge forum.....and i own a 98 avenger.Just thought with all the eclipse questions ive seen lately this might be a place to try....thanks in advance!

im sure ull get an answer but if you dont there is a mitsubishi forum its mitsubishiforum.com they would be able to help as well but if i am hearing u corectly since its not all wheel drive i think a non turbo engine will bolt up but if its the 2.0 motor like ours i think the mounts are diff.and the cam gears and all that stuff are fliped floped but if its a non turbo 4g63 it should go right in thats my guess
Yes and no, the 420a is not a drop in motor, just like the 4g63 isn't a drop in motor for an Avenger. Rationally, you may save money on the motor, but you lose it having to put the time to fab motor mounts, plus the electronics needed to manage the n/a motor. You can't use a turbo ECU in a non-turbo application nor will the electrical plugs just plug in. It sounds like you're looking for the easy way, I can assure you that isn't it, lol.
