My NEW offroading partner! Pics inside!
Well after my 01 GV only made it 4 months with me, I bought a 03.
It is a 2003 Suzuki Grand Vitara 58,000 miles. Very low!! V6 2.5L DOHC 4x4 with a 4 low!
Very clean and Very well taken care of. Paid for in cash NO car payments!!
My plans for now is within the next week tint the front windows. Get a nice aftermarket radio. Get a hitch.
Oh and the truck just had to give me transmission problems. I get it back from the shop tomorrow.

LOL! Ya I've been considering the swap. I guess I would go with the NV4500 to support the 5.9 and all the extras I have. My only problem is when offroading I feel like i will burn up the clutch to fast, since I never have been a daily driver of a manual transmission.
I got the truck back, they said it just needed adjustments. It feels normal now. It was stuck in 1st Gear only.

If you go with the NV4500, you shouldn't burn the clutch up!! It has a 5.61:1 first gear! It should be able to crawl slow enough that you don't have to ride the clutch. I'm thinking of putting an Atlas 4 speed transfer case behind my new NV4500... the one that has a low, low, low range of something like 10.38:1. That should give me a possible low range of around 238:1.

with my transmission, when i shift into first i just let the clutch out and it goes by itself, when i was offroading back in july, i got stuck in deep water and dropped her in first and crawled out just fine(in 2wd!). if your worried about burning the clutch out just thing of driving in wisconsin, you have to sit on the clutch for 20miles for everyone to get up to speed and finally stop cutting you off (and taking you picture). and when you come to a stop the other drivers inch up so close you have to sit on half a clutch just to keep from rolling into them. i have to deal with that everyday for the almost 30 mile trip from my house to the house i'm working on.

Huh... in North Carolina, if the front end of a car hits the rear of another car, its the person in backs fault period. So if theyre so close to you that you roll into them, thats not your problem, its theirs... especially when you have a steel bumper! Sorry, but I NEVER and I do mean NEVER ride my clutch to keep my truck stopped. Thats what brakes are for. I'm not going to put that wear on the clutch, pressure plate and flywheel just to stop from backing into some idiot who can't give me room. (I've never actually rolled backwards into anyone though... I know how to drive).

Thanks for the advice guys.
I just got back from a last minute night time offroad adventure. My friend calls me up at 10pm and says lets go, we were out for 2 hours with both of our trucks. He has a manual 82 Ramcharger. So I got to see first hand how it is. For a non daily driver of a manual it seemed like a lot of clutch work at times when not in low gears or low range.
For the NV4500, I know it would be best to upgrade the transfercase, but do you think the NV231 will be Okay behind it still? Of coarse I would still have the stock axles ect so I know all that will have to fail at some point, but no problems with my style of offroading so I think I would be Okay.
