Default How do YOU raise your truck for service?

Hi everyone,

Just a random question of the day. What and how do you raise your truck off the ground for service? Do you have the luxury of a lift so you can get underneath and stand up, have a party etc? or are you rocking a jack and jack stands allowing you to slide underneath and be greeted by 3tons of truck in your face, lol. Maybe you rarely have to take it off the ground because it has a 10" lift kit on it and you can access anything you need right there!

Me? I have yet to lift my truck, and when it comes time (soon for brakes and rear differential rebuild) I am going to invest in a decent 3ton low profile jack and some stands. I have a 2ton jack for my car and to be honest, i barely trust it with my car so no way i would ever try to lift the truck with it. did i mention i HATE lifting vehicles off the ground? lift would be great but the lack of space and funds makes it kind of hard. I think the city would be upset by a lift in my driveway..................they get kranky over the silliest of things. lol

Ok, go!

have a good one!

If the wheels don't have to come off, I don't have to do anything to lift my truck up off the ground! :P

I have enough room to drop the transmission and pull it out under the frame rails without a jack or jackstand holding up any part of the truck!

If a wheel has to come off, I use a jack on the axles. If I ever have to use a jack on the frame, it takes a whole lot of 4x4 blocks of wood for the jack to reach, and that is very nerve wracking to say the least!

Same as above, No jacks needed unless the wheels need to come off. Even had enough room to remove the transmission. I had to place a piece of carpet so I could slide it out from under the frame rails. Didn't need to jack up the truck at all for the transmission rebuild a while back.

For normal stuff just get out the creeper and slide under.

I got a 3 ton Racing Jack, and a 2 ton HD steel jack. And 6 Jack stands but only use 2 or so when needed.
I have ramps, but I haven't used them on the truck since it was 2wd 8yrs ago.

Next time I need to remove a wheel I will just do this to get it in the air.

I drive my truck halfway up onto the septic tank mound and just block the wheels. Rednecktastic.

i just move mine into the garage and put my lonly jackstand under teh side i need raised. last time i took my trans out i had to lift the truck up another 3in to just to get it to clear the frame.

my friend, on the other hand, parks his truck over a ditch so he has room to work under it

but in a few months my grandpa will be raising the roof on his garage and then he'll be putting a lift in it so i won't need jackstands unless i'm changing a tire
