i just bought...
an overhead console...like deerkiller's but its out of a 2002 jeep grand cherokee. its a little guy which is why i chose it. i bought it thinking it would only have the compass, temp and lights but when i tested it i found that it is the evic system that allows the owner(user) to program different settings and find information too(i.e. gas milage, miles till empty, ect). retails for around 400$ and i payed $5 for it...
thanks to the faq i found all but 1 wire to hook into on it but now i'm lost on the last one.
does our trucks(obdi) have a pci bus wire? i'd look it up but my laptop is broken and i can't download the wiring diagrams onto the one i'm on now(sadly its not my pc).
i found out for the temp i need to get an ambient temp sensor (around $30 new) so i'll have to go back and grab it and find how its wired up.
btw here is the pic of it.

thanks... when i pulled it i didn't know what i was getting. thought it was just a standard compass and temp. i hope get a few of the features on it to work if not all of them(i know i won't get all of them).
i already started wiring it up today before work. i have all the wiring run but not hooked up. since we started the huge garage addition to my house i haven't been able to put my truck in there and have had to work out in the cold...but next week i'll be tearing down the motor to change the water pump and bypass hose(and any other old hose).
i also have to go back and get the ambient temp sensor and wiring. depending on the prices it could be anywhere from next weekend or longer for it to be done...i'm currently in the process of purchasing another truck, but i feel the guy is trying to jack me on the price.

Hey keep us informed. Im wondering what the diff is between your truck and Crazies sounds like different wiring, but then again the intake and tb dont look like anything nin the parts thing, maby Dodge just built these trucks for guys like usto fiddle with.
maybe he was to lazy to look up the wiring...lol jk. him and i both have the same wiring except his being 4wd. the one he had might have had more wires to connect. mine only has 4 wires: ground, ignition, pci bus and fused B+(too bad my hs grades weren't the same...lol)
i stopped after running the wires because i had to work and i need to glue the plastic piece in(white caulk won't hold no matter how much i glob onto it...lol)
it is a tad to wide. when i put the plastic piece up against the ceiling i had to trim a bracket off of it to clear the windshield, and the passenger visor won't clear the plastic piece.

If I remember right I had about 10 or more wires. I tried to find a pinout, but I couldn't, not easily anyways. I quit and sold it. My guess it did the Odometer, Trip miles, Temp, Other messages ect. It
I wanted mine for the storage. I have extra lights in my rear view mirror, from my old Trans Am.

i kinda figured on that. when i pulled it from the jeep, i was thinkin, "man, i'm going to get lucky with this." luckily the one i had pulled came out of one with the sun roof and windshield still intact. the sad thing is in all the years i've gone to that yar they only had 1 first gen dakota, 2 second gens, and 4 rams(which they don't have anymore) and half the yard full of jeeps, durangos, and every other car i don't have...lol

for those who were patiently waiting for the update. i've been screwin around with the thermostatic fan controller for my e-fan, but i did manage to get the power and ground wired up for the console and the wires run down the pillar. i will have pics up later as i am working right now. I also glued the plastic piece that holds the console up to the roof.
here are the pics.
glued to the roof. i had to take it back down and reglue it because i had used white caulk to glue and that didn't really hold...lol

wires running down the pillar...(i didn't break the clips either this time...lol)

thats all i have right now, but i did finally get that thermostatic switch working on my truck and now my fans kick on automatically.
