Wink How not to change your oil!

So I decided to do a oil change on the dakota. Have done many in the past to other vehicles but this is the second change since I bought the truck.

I drove the truck up on the ramps I have 5" off the ground. Bad idea. I could barley get the hood rest/rod up because I couldn't reach.

Then I went to fill the truck again with oil once it was drained and I poured the oil into my new funnel. The stupid screen had it flowing so slow that I thought it was done and spilled oil down the side of the engine. So now Im pissed. Pull the screen out and began filling again. Also trying to do this by standing on the ground with the friggin grill almost face level. So I couldn't really see what I was doing.

So I got some oil in enough to start and back the truck off the ramps. Then proceeded to top up the oil. I got a even louder knocking sound now so I will have to see where thats coming from. I used 10w 40 oil...

Oh and the filter was full arms reach from the ground so that sucked as well. Only took few seconds to screw the new filter in tho.

So lesson learned, ramps are not needed unless you have a friggin small later. LOL

LOL! Damn. Thank God I don't need the ramps. I got more than enough room under it.

I haven't touched mine in 5-6 years. Last time they touched my truck was when it was 2wd and stock. My large jack and jack stands are way easier if needed.

Even my stock 4wd '93 has enough room to get under it.

Unlike you guys my truck does not have enough room for me to fit under it, guess I am just big chested and big boned then. I just drive it up a curb in a parking lot somewhere and change it then and there.

Ah I see, your one of those guys at Canadian Tire doing oil changes in the parking lot lol j/k

When I was changing the oil I noticed the underside of the truck was caked in oil. Turns out the oil filter worked its way loose. Would explain why the truck started using oil....

At least you didn't have to jack the engine up, the passenger motor mount in mine is bad and the filter won't come out without a jack under the transmission.

Guess I am lazy. I just drive it up to Oil Can Henry's, they hand me a news paper, they check all my fluids and top them all off, grease everything with a zirc, $35 and 15 minutes later I drive off.
