87 Dakota "On The Road again" Kind of
Greetings all,
After way too long the 87 is road worthy again, got a windshield in and the registration updated and took it for a highway test last night. As we get older the term "mental note" should be replaced by "written note pasted to the steering wheel". got about 2 miles outside of town the truck upshifted fine and all was great, until the tranny cooler lines that I had made a "mental note" to fasten up, rubbed against the front driveshaft and wore thru. pumping 5 quarts of castrol ATF+4 at $8 a quart onto the shoulder and bringing me to a halt. Got the hose replaced via flashlight in teeth, put more fluid back in and headed home.
Took it for a drive today and if I put it in drive it acts like it's starting in 3rd, if I pull it down into 1 and start off it upshifts normally as soon as I come to a stop it's still in 3rd. If I shift it back to 1st take of shift to second at 25MPH and then shift it to 3rd at 35-40, it will rev up as soon as I let off the gas it shifts into 3rd and we are off and running. as soon as I smelled the tranny fluid hitting the exhaust pipe, I stopped and only drove about 50 feet and shut the truck off. Did I toast it that fast.
