Heh. For what would an OBD connector be used?

If there IS anything, it's a SLI connector, inside the engine bay.

(What would you query the OBD for on a carburated motor anyway?)

The onboard diagnostic connector on the early Dakotas is near the heater blower resistor on the firewall, passenger side.

It's a 6 pin connector.
I believe it's ODB1, at least my 1990 is.

You need a DRB-II scan tool, or a ODB1 scanner with the oem adapter for it.
Neither option is cheap. You aren't going to buy a $30 scan tool for it.
(Until ODB2 came out, there was no single connector and standard.. hence the cost)

Most people simply use the Key on/Key off sequence and count the number of time the check engine light flashes.
(how to do that is in the FAQ sticky threads)

As Ralph says, i'm not sure what that carburated engine would give you in codes though.
I suspect nothing at all, but I'm not familiar with the early dakota carb versions and what they have for SBEC sensors/controls.
