Distributer gear. / oil pump gear
I bought a 92 sport V6 for $200 (non runner) the distributer wouldnt turn.
i traced it down to the gear that the cam turns.
When i pulled the gear out it was so worn out that it was striped.
I replaced it with a used one out of another motor.
what would cause it to wear out like that?
If the oil pump was going out would it cause it to wear out?
my oil pressure goes up and down. Sometimes its high and sometimes its low.
is that in indicator that the oil pump is bad? I am not pushing the motor as i dont want it to happen again.
Really need a driver right now as my 93 V8'S Tranny went out on me. Im behind schedule with work i have lined up. Having trouble finding a tranny from a trusted source.
Any info on this is greatly appreciated

Either a manufacturing flaw, or, lack of lubrication..... If the cam gear is ok, I would suspect the former.
Oil pressure will fluctuate with engine RPM, and oil temp. Nothing unusual there. Also, the pressure sensors aren't the most reliable..... If pressure drops to zero at idle, but, comes right back up as soon as you give it ANY gas, that's like just a bad sensor.

Distributer gear
Thanks for the info. HayYou
i been driving around. Scared to run it to hard or put it under load.
i figured i would put around 500 miles or so on it. Then pull the gear and check it for wear. I would hate for it to strip out on me and mess up the cam or snap the timing chain. I already have one truck down.
Having to decide what one to keep and what one to sell is proving to be difficult.
93. V8. Auto. Or
92. V6 manual. They both seem to have plenty of power. I guess it depends on gas mileage.
