Default 88 3.9 V6 Resto

Hello all,

I recently purchased a 1988 2wd 5 speed manual with 120,500 miles on the clock. The body is good for the year with minimal surface rust on the roof (see pics) and paint flake etc.

I have just replaced (well my mate did):

- all 4 shocks
- U- joints
- Rear main seal
- Output shaft seal
-Valve cover gaskets
- E brake cable

Plan now is for the truck to go the body shop for sand down and new paint and a roll pan.

Question is I am not sure if I should keep the factory silver or change the colour to maybe an electric blue.

I am also of thinking of 15" mags.

Being originally from England, these trucks are new to me. I specifically wanted a manual and I wanted a RWD because it will be my summer ride (ands 2wd is generally cheaper to fix and 4wd etc.)

change the color to whatever excites you....these trucks don't have any collectible value in regards to original anything so do what you want. Obviously changing color is more time consuming and costly but if that's what you want go for it.

I'm working on a resto as well, with a similar list of things that had to be fixed on it to get it through inspection and leave it declared road ready. I posted pics over in the before and after thread if you wanted to see any of them.

On the color, as noted prior, I'd go with whatever floats your boat. I happen to like the original 'bright white' that the truck I'm working on was as an original. I had some thoughts of going with a black and orange (in a Harley Davidson theme), but the interior is a blue that goes well with the original white and I really don't want to go through the effort and expense of changing all of that stuff so it doesn't look so strange or out of place.

For your truck what will you be doing about the rust? Are you gonna use some rust remover on it or sand down and through?

Hey thanks. I'll check out your thread.

As for the rust, my uncle in-law has a shop and he has just semi retired he'll be sanding it down and treating all spots etc.
Colour wise yes there is the added expense and time of changing the colour. The silver is pretty cool as it is.
