Default 88 Dakota fuel tank swap.

New guy here. I have seen a couple post on tank swaps. There are 3 late 80's in a bone yard near me, and all have the same problem. Rusted sending units. I found a 94 Dakota 22 gallon tank but is uses a fuel pump module. Has anyone tried this sawp?

Not yet, but you'd also need the 91-93 pump module to get the return. 1991 uses the same module, and it's also TBI, so LOGICALLY it should work fine.

(You have to drop the pressure down to the 14.5PSI you want, and the regulator's built onto the side of the TBI unit ... 1994-1996 V6 and V8 were returnless with the regulator on the fuel pump module.. 1994-1995 I4 were return also.)

Thanks for the info. I was thinking of trying to put the TBI pump in the 94 module. By pass the regulator made into the module. Was hoping for an easier way. The owner said to get it out of his driveway I could have it. To nice to pass up. Benn sitting 14 years.

If the pump module would swap, you could just buy 91-93 modules for your 88.

But they don't - the fastening method is different.

I'm planning on using a 91-96 tank and a 91-93 fuel pump assembly on my Dakota next time I do the fuel pump.

I was just lokking at the 91-93 pumps on line. Looks to be the easy way to go. Learning alot real fast on these. 5 speeds are hard to find for these also. Just rebuilt this one. I appreciate the help. This is my first Dodge.

You DO need to grab that 94 module with the tank; the roll over valve isn't included in the new modules, you're supposed to recycle it.

There's a Dorman that can be coaxed to fit with some K-Y and profanity in five or six languages

I did grab the tank. My truck had the small tank, and it had a big split in the top. I guess from age. The ones in the boneyard had 1/2 inch holes drilled in them. Good ol EPA requirements for the yards.

That's fixable; been nicer if it'd been 1/4" or so, though.

Yah, it do be the law.

The law is an ***.
