87' Dodge Dakota engine swap
Hey I know similar questions have been asked, but I have a 1987 dodge Dakota and I already pulled the stock V6 out because of a cracked block. Three questions:
1. The 318 LA or the 318 Magnum? I know 318s have a negative stigma around them but that's the engine I would like to use for later modding. I want it to be carbureted so I was thinking about going for the LA but I don't know if I could find a carbureted Magnum. I really just want to know which would work better.
2. Would I have to change the stock exhaust pipe or could I leave it in for now even though it might subtract from performance a bit?
3. Just any pointers or things I have to do? things I could reuse from the V6 ect.
Any feedback would be much appreciated! This is my first engine swap so I'd love to hear from experienced people.

you can put a carb intake on both la and magnum engine.. the magnum you would need to use electric fuel pump unless you swap timing cover and add a pump sentric to cam. as for exsaust it should work.
So I decided to buy a 318 LA version for my 1st gen dodge dakota because I got it on a good deal, and I have been reading online that the engine mounts should fit right onto the sub frame but with further measuring it does not. Could anyone give pointers on what to do next whether it be welding or getting adjustable adapters if there are any?
Thanks!
Thanks!
