i have a 92 dakota 318 and i im having trouble with the asd relay because i can use a jumper wire fron batt to fuel pump and it will run until the key is turned on and asd relay shuts it off i have read the the asd recieves a signal from the distributor and if it doesnt the asd will cut spark and fuel off does any1 have advice on how to fix the prob maybe new (dist pickup coil, computer, ignition module??????)

ya, its the distributor pick up coil. its like $15 and lke 5 minutes to install. just pull the cap off and i think theres 2 screws that hold it on and your done.

is that the only thing that sends a signal to the distributor??? because if ur sure thats the prob that would be a hell of a lot cheaper then the computer lol

mine was doing the same thing and I replaced that and she started right up. I cant see the computer causing that.

RE: does any 1 have experiance with dodges auto shut down relay
Hi....
My son has a 1995 dodge dakota V6 that the auto shutdown relay will not energize. He has replaced head due to water leak and now can get engine to turn over but the auto shutdown relay will not energize, no fuel pump relay, no spark. The mechanic told us to check our dodge dakota performance parts and all under-dash and under-hood fuses with a test light or multimeter.
Try checking it with yours.... It maybe similar with your situation. Hope it may help you.Goodluck to you!

ok i tested everything it was all good all fuses relays had refrence volts but no voltage coming out (prob due to it bein messed up) im thinkin now it could posiably be the crank shaft position sensor but idk cuz im startin to get to much money wraped up in this $600 for truck $250 fuel pump and filter $40 plugs and wires $25 cap and rotor $35 pickup coil so after i get the $45 sensor that will put me at around $1000 i ont even think the truck is worth that much is it????

I was gonna post about my problem on another tread but after reading this one I think I have the same problem. My fuel pump was not working so I repalced it. However when I got the new one on it wasn't getting any power. So I hooked it right up to the battery jsut to test, sure enough gas begin to come out. Then I couldn't get to truck to start. So I checked the spark and there was none. So my fuel pump is getting no power and my engine has lost spark. Is this the same probelm and how do I fix it? Thanks for all your help.
