Default help 1990

well my dakota has been acting funny the last few weeks. if you remember i had trouble with it starting and not starting, well i thouhgt i had it fixed. but now it wants to spit back thru the throttle body. it started out doing it once or twice, now i like never got it home today. it is a 3.9 v6 auto. it runs smooth when it runs, i have put new plugs wires dist cap, the timing isnt the issue, i am thinking it is something with the hall effect in the distributor or injector problems. any idea? and can some one tell me exactly what the hall effect does. thanks brian

Are you sure you did not mix up a plug wire when you replaced them along with the dist. cap?

im positive i didnt, not only did i change the plugs one at a time but that is ho i changed the wires too.i put the plugs and stuff in about a month ago, since then i have put around 250 miles with no problem, i thought i had it fixed, but now it is starting to spit and sputter. im going to pull the dist one day soon and clean around the pick ups and stuff. ill get a new coil as well. the motor has around 170,000 miles, the truck itself has right at 435,000. my wife says to just bury it this time, but i hate to, i still love to drive the little truck. had her since 1991, lmost as long as i had my wife. so im thinking if it is time for a new truck, why not a wife? some women dont understand.

I also have a 91 that I bought new. A while back i changed the temp sending unit, got it from local auto zone. After a short while it did the same as you describe. I ended up taking it to thedealer and it was the temp sending unit causing it. I also once changed the distribuator cap again from auto zone. Would not start one day, towed it to a local wrench and it was the cap I replaced. Since then i will only buy those kind of parts from the dealer.
