Tach. off
Is it common onthe dakotas for the tach. to be off. Mine says that it is idling at 100-200 rpms and i know its not, it also bounces off 5,000 on the revlimiter, so i just wanted to see if mabey i was turning out even more than that. If anybody has fixed this can u let me know. Is the revlimiter 5000?

RE: Tach. off
My tach reads (probably) accurate, usually idles around500-900RPM depending on all the factors that effect it.
I've never *intentionally* gotten it really close to 4,800RPM (redline) to see if it limits the RPM (I've gotten the needle close quite a few times, but back off the throttle).
There should be a way to get accurate RPM readings to see how accurate the tachometer is (btw, evidently controlled by some module stashed above the cluster).

RE: Tach. off
Yea... and since I don't like the idea of taking out a perfectly good motor (and I, for the most part, take pretty good care of my truck), I probably won't be swapping in some V-8 any time soon.
However, I saw a '07 Ram 2500 4x4 Cummins in Infernored([sm=Awwww.gif]) yesterday... if I made about $550 a month more, I'd of bought that, and my Dakota would be seeing a new engine.
