Default stalling on a low tank

my 89 stalls out at stops when the tank gets down to about 3 gallons left. is there a screen that can get clogged on the intake in the gas tank. tried injector cleaner and the water stuff, maybe its a loose line floating in there? its only on stopping with a low tank

Dont let the tank run low or change out the fuel pump assembly, they are pretty pricey though.

yea my thoughts exactly why are you running the tank that low anyway, i fillup around 1/4 tank most of the time i dont see any reason to run it to E

Exactly what those two have said. Like shrpshtr325, I usually fill up around 1/4 tank. The pump is cooled by the fuel, and running it until the tank is basically empty is not good on the (expensive) pump.
Of course, than again, if you have the stock 15 gallon tank, 1/4 tank is about 3.5 gallons (versus 5.5 with the 22 gallon tank).
Should it do that? No, it should run until theres hardly any fuel left at all. One of your guesses is probably correct.

ive always run the truck til the light went on, my driving is pretty consistant at about 300 miles a week which means i fill on thursday nights with almost all the driving on the weekends. wednesday it starts to sputter, thursday it stalls a couple times then it gets filled. those last three gallons were always a safety zone to make it thru the week, dont really want to be at the gas station on monday and then again on thursday so that my tank is full for the weekend. maybe hit it hard with a couple tanks of gummout or something similar, just dont like running stuff that may hurt the older gaskets and or lines or may loosen something that may clog something.
