Default couple noises

i have a 94 dakota 4x4 with the 3.9 with 225,xxx kms onit. it runs fine,it recently had the timing chain replaced becuse of a heavy ticking noise and backfiring at 3000rpms that is now better as theres no more backfiring, the problems now is there still is alot quieter and not all the time ( randomly) ticking noise (and it doesnt get louder as you rev it up)
the second noise is if u rev the truck up and let rpms come down from anything over 2500rpms theres popping noises once its warmed up it also throws out some oil on droplets and it does it aswell when u rev it up and its noticible on the pavement

The ticking noise and the popping could be caused by the same thing....

The ticking, if it gets quieter as you rev it up could most likely be an exhaust leak, if it got louder as you revved it, it could be a valvetrain tick.

As for the oil, does it create a small puff of smoke when you start it up? If so, the valve seals could be rotting out. Do an oil change, substitute one quart of oil for a quart of Marvel Mystery Oil and it may fix your problem.

If it's still leaking, try checking the oil pan bolts and make sure they are tight.

Hope this helps.

The "oil" that you're seeing could be a mixture of condinsation (water) and carbon to look as if it was oil? Are you 100% sure its oil?

note* that before the timing chain was done it had seafoam through it and that reallyhelped with sludge and deposits so the oil is good and clean in it

you might clean the throttle body. Hows your gas mileage? Could be running way rich. Check your timing and O2 sensors

It does sound alot like at least one problem is the truck running rich. Does your temperature guage work? If that factory sensor isn't working, the computer will not think the engine has warmed to "closed loop temperature" and will continue to run rich, which is MPFI's answer to "choke" on older models.I'm having that problem as we speak becauseI dropped to a 160 thermostat and the ECM doesn't "close loop" untilI think 175-180 on the 92 model..
Also responsible for fuel-air calculations are the MAP sensor, O2 sensor, Throttle position sensor, and even battery voltage. Hope ya get it goin soon!
