Default Main oil seal leaking

How difficult is it to replace the main oil seal on my 1988 V6 automatic Dakota? Will I need specialized tools? I have a good jack but not a transmision jack, will that make a difference? I am assuming the oil seal is something that can be tapped into place with a hammer. Is that correct?

The actual replacement is easy. But long prosses to get to it. You do not have to remove the tranny. you can do it with the enging still in the truck. you dont need a tranny jack. This site has all the info you need its mostly just removing the oil pan.
