about to change the heater core....any advice!
I am almost certain my heater core is bad. When the heat is turned on, there is a smell of radiator fluid and the windows fog up. The heat also sucks.
My understanding is the heater core is behind the dash. How the hell do you remove the whole dash? Any help on this would be appreciated!

I recently changed mine on my 2000 Durango. First, search for the 2001 Dak service manual. Someone on the forum was kind enough to post it for anyone to use. Second, it was not bad at all, as long as you are mechanically inclined. This was my first, took me sbout 6 hours to remove and replace the core and evap. Took about 4 hour to put back together. Simply put, everything in the dash comes out (radio, A/C controls, headlight switch, glove box, etc). The dash has 2 brackets under the kick plates that allow the dash to swivel back. That way you can disconnect cables without having to hold up the dash. The FSM goes through the steps pretty well, with one exception. I believe, but cannot remeber for sure, that the FSM says to remove the steering column. No need to do that. You only have to disconnect the mounting bolts and let sit on the seat. A lot easier than pulling it out. Lastly, you would be foolish not to change the evap as well, since you have it all torn apart. One more tip, I taped each of the bolts that I removed to the cooresponding panel. Takes the guess work out of trying to figure out where they go. Good luck. Really not that bad, just don't get frustrated.
