Default 87 dak, what to do what to do

I've had this 87 dodge dakota v6 3.9 litre engine for a few years now, and recently my brother who's into modifying his vehicles with lift kits and suspension upgrades ect has gotten me interested in modifying it a bit. What fun stuff is fairly good to do for a beginner, that wont for instance destroy your engine if you mess up the first time you try it? I'd really like to lower it a bit and make it all around more flashy/powerful, its by no means mint condition so i'm not worried about having a good time with it and experimenting. I can afford to make a few mistakes, but have no starting point to work from, any advice would be appreciated.

Not much is made for the older ones, unfortunately. I would start with just cleaning it up. Lower it a little bit and add some wheels.

The 3.9 isn't the best choice to modify on these, these trucks are too heavy. IMO.

You should try summitracing.com jegs.com jcw.com and ebay belive it or not there is alot of stuff on ebay. You might not find your years listed but do some resurch and see if it would fit. for power start off doing high performance wires coil plugs. all the little stuff like that.
