Hi

What is your opinion about this one
Actron Elite Autoscanner Pro CP9190

It uses this old OBD I type 6-pin SCI connector.
Chrysler OBD I SCI Cable

If some has this kind or equivalent working OBD I scanner please offer it to me.
I'm ready to buy it!
I'm living in Finland, so postage fees are quite huge but there is no Dodge services around anyway so I have to make almost everything by myself.

I have Dodge Dakota 1989 model 3,9 4WD and it has this 6 -pin connector

Yea... that flat out does not work. It doesn't matter who told you or where you read it on the internet.

Without the OBD I / Chrysler cable or an adapter for the newer scan tools, you will not get the Maintenance Required light off on a '89-'95 Chrysler vehicle.

It has nothing to do with codes. This light is set when the computer detects a certain number of times the ignition switch is turned on (I forget how many).

Unfortunately, a lot of shops including some dealerships no longer have the right tool. This is a bummer in states like California where you cannot get a smog certificate with that light on.

I am looking on eBay and CraigsList now for an OBD I or equivalent. I have both a '91 Acclaim and a '90 Grand Caravan Cargo (best van ever!) so I run into this every few years.

Default More on the EMR lamp

The EMR on Dodge trucks (including Caravans, & Jeeps) is illuminated on MILEAGE. This happens only three times, Once @ 60,000 miles for EGR service, second @ 80,000 miles for Oxygen sensor replacement, and lastly @ 120,000 miles for EGR service. After the 120,000 mile illumination it becomes inactive and worthless. I found that the Actron Engine Analyser would NOT reset it. I was able to get from Actron (2002) a Scan Tool(R) with Chrysler cartridge from Actron which will turn the EMR lamp off. My 1989-DGC did not have EGR so again I found the EMR of no value.

No you do not need the factory DRB scanner; I can do it with my Snap on scanner.

Funny it's on loan to my buddy who's a dealer tech since he bought a newer scanner that didn't have all the adapters and needed mine with its 'older stuff"

I need to get it back as since he's had he scanner my CEL came on in my 93; (not the "maint req'd lite")
yeah I know all about the key dance and I know the code that is stored but I want to read my parameters to see exactly what's goin on....

Without reset equipment, there are two ways to defeat the EMR lamp. First is to get into your instrument panel and physically remove the bulb. The second is to place a piece of black electrical tape over the bulb. I suppose one could removed the EMR sub-circuit board from the instrument cluster main board.

With proper notice I will reset anyone's EMR lamp if they are in my area (Staunton, Va.)

There is one other option for turning off the light without a scanner. Cut the lamp output wire from the PCM. The 93 Dakota manual states pin# 56 Gry/Pk on the PCM. Super easy since the PCM is on the passengers fender and a simple removable cover over the connector, a quick snip and your done.

There is no sub-circuit board for the EMR light. It is just a light on the instrument cluster.

The 1989 DGC has one although it might be an integral part of the IC board. Reference Electrical Sheets S-HK52 and S-HK39. It has a red connector. It is called the EMR Module. At least there is a EMR module connector that supplies 12VDC, Ground, and lamp output to EMR lamp. On the '89DGC your recommendation would be bulkhead cavity #15 circuit G29 20GY w/PKtrace.
