Larger tires...
Hey guys
I've got a 1996 Dak 3.9L 5 speed and my tires and about bald. I have the stock size tires on it and would like to go up a few sizes. What are the downsides of moving up in tire sizes ? Will it mess up my speedo or rear end? I am not talking HUGE tires, I just want to get it a little higher up to look a little better (The large wheel wells look very empty with stock size tires). Any reccomendations? Does anyone have any pics of what a larger tire size would look like so I can get a better idea? I appreciate it

I have 33s on my truck. I had to go up with my rear end ratio and get my speedometer recalibarted too. You said your not going to big, so you might not have to change rear end ratios. Check out this site and check the calculator and the chartto see if you need to go up on the rear end. As for the speedometer you might have to get it checked. It depends on how much bigger you go. The most will be off is about 5-10. get a buddy inhis truckand drive on the freeway, and compair speeds. if itsnot to far offi would say it might beliveable. http://www.4lo.com/calc/geartire.htm
I went from 215/75/15 to 225/75/15. It looks much better. The things I noticed are the truck reacts more to grooves in the road, and my gas mileage seems to have gone down some. Oh and the speedo is off by about 5mph at freeway speeds.
the speed and odometer are off on mine. when it reads 65 in going about 72 mph which means im speeding, but not enough to get pulled over. some will say that they are not getting as good a gas mileage, but my 89 gets better mileage. when figuring your milage you need to compensate by the difference in milage with the bigger tires. in my case its just over ten percent that needs to be added by looking at what the difference in mph reads. use a gps to figure how far things are off, its more accurate
Had my new tires installed today. OriginallyI had 225/70/R15. I went with 235/75/R15 and I have to say I really like the look, and the feel of them. I have noticed a bit of power loss and, a few other differences, but it is with-in a reasonable range. The good outweights the bad. I appreciate your advice. Trying to fix my digicam so I can post pics.
