Default Smells like Fuel

Just recently my truck started to smell like gas. I describe the smell as 'fresh' unburned fuel. Almost like if you had a gallon of gas sitting in a bucket that kind of smell. I only notice the smell if I'm sitting at a stop sign for more than say 30 seconds or after I'm done driving. I just filled up the other day and the mpg stayed at 17 which is average for my driving style. I checked for leaks but haven't found one.. yet at least.

I also checked for codes and it did come back as 32.

Only mods are very simply, K&N FIPK intake, and a different muffler (glasspack) cheap cherrybomb.

1993 Dakota, 4x4, 3.9 V6, 5 spd.

Any ideas of what to look at?

If it is running rich would that throw a code 32 or something else?

I'll check the plugs and see what they look like. Otherwise it runs perfectly normal like always

code 32 in the Hayes manual shows a faulted EGR system....not sure how the fuel smell and code 32 are related though. hmmm....

Well, you know your EGR is bad. Replace that and see if it goes away

I'll remove the EGR valve, clean it and put it back on. If that doesn't fix it I'll buy a new one.

Should I unhook the battery to reset the computer/pcm after cleaning it or putting in a new one?

UPDATE

There is a leak. A very small puddle of fuel dripping from where the transmission and engine meet. Now I have to find the source, its running down the transmission, it is fuel.

It will be an hour or so before I can look at it though, I'll update again.

I had a leak in the same place your describing. The fuel line was rubbing on the bottom flange of the firewall. I used some JBWeldto plug the hole and also massaged the flange flat (beat the hell out of it with a hammer). It's been a little over a year and it's still not leaking.

Yep I'll try that. Doesn't leak while its running though, I let it sit idle for a few minutes in garage and nothing. Drove a couple miles and sat in garage again for a couple minutes at idle nothing. Turned it off, and with in a minute I saw a little drip, and where it was coming from. At least it doesn't while its running though, but I need to fix it and will.
