ok, heres the deal, apparently you cant give the stock trans hell for too long before it quits working..... im perty sure its the torque converter, but not 100% sure... anyway, on the the qustion, im ging to be looking for a trans for my truck, but i need to know which one it is.... is it the 42RE or 46RE? or neather?..... its a 3.9L engine, Auto trans, and 2WD

Any help would be much appreciated

FYI, i guess you cant run a 3.5 mile streach of highway at 110 everyday without the trans kealing over.... or the cops saying something [clocked at 97]

 

1996 and up had the 42re with the v6. 1995 and down had the 42rh for the v6.

 

Thank you very much, but it as i was removeing the starter to prep for the trans removel, i found a crack in the frame..... the cost of the trans, and getting the frame repaired far out-weigh what i have, let-alone what the truck is worth..... I have found a 1992 Dakota, 3.9L Auto 2x4.... I belive i am just gong to buy that one, and use mine as a parts truck.... damn shame......

a crack on the frame, that the first time of heard of thi issue on a Dak, did it rust thru or break?
