overdrive problems

[align=left][ol][*][align=left]hi i have a dakota v8 91 that i just bought 1 week ago. the overdrive wont kick in and i dont really know where to look. Anyone have any ideas[/align][*][align=right] [/align][/ol][/align]

Fist look at the wires. I dont know if you got a overdrive override swich, but if yo do check the swich see if it lights up when you press it. check if you got voltage there and at the tranny. check fuses. Check out the FAQ here in gen 1 dak. they have a help section.

check the OD solenoid switch down on the tranny, drivers side make sure connections are nice and clean

thanks for the help crazy and cody. The light switch does turn on , the fluid id good, the other gears work fine and the the tranny is just a year old . I checked the solenoid and the wires were cut then taped up together. It looks like it could be that. Thanks again
