87 2.2 manual carb replacement
i just bought a truck i need a new carb .from what i gather i have a holley 6520 carb and iv been hearing that theyre not so good. i need a replacement . i hear that the holley 5220 is better for performance and gas mileage? is there any modifications i will need to do if i replace it with a 5220. do you think i will see a difference with this? or just drop the 6520 back on ? any advice?
Carburetors are carburetor are carburetor and, unless they're malfunctioning, you're not going to see much difference in performance or fuel economyfrom one model to the next unless you change other stuff too. And going bigger won't help unless the engine can make use of the extra air and fuel.
If yours is not malfunctioning, I'd leave it.
On that note, a worth while change wold be to EFI from a K, H, Jor G body car. You could probably get the whole car for pennies if all you're after is engine. Find one that isn't driveable or was wrecked or some such. The manifolds and distributor should swap, and the computer is right there under the hood, at the front of the air intake. OR you could even find a turbo car and swap the whole engine. A 2.2 turbo Dakota would be unique.

well the truck is in mint condition. the guy i got it from had the block and heads redone . when he put it all back together he broke the choke selonoid and all kinds of "stuff" off the carb. i was hopin to replace the carb and have a fairly reliable little truck. i was just wondering since the carbs gotta be replaced anyway would it be posable to improve with a different model carb. or should i just put a holley 6520 back on?
If you have the money then buy the upgrade a good salesman from holley will helpwith the right one for you. Also mention a spacer that goes between the carb/throttle body and the intake. It helps with airflow. Maybe add 6-8 hp
