Default 318 build

I tore down my 318 today and realized it is already. 060 over..... How much can you bore these 318's? The cylinders look pretty good so i am just going to hone them good and put the new pistons in.

Well im just gonna say this but idk if you havea magnum or A engine 318 but I got these to books http://www.amazon.com/Rebuild-Mopar-...979&sr=8-2and in them it says to limit boreing only to .020-.030 otherwise get a race block. I don't know but that what the book says I will try to find out why.

I thoght the same thing too... the pistions say .060 and i measured the inside and it is worn a little past .060, so it does not look like that one will get built. But i found a magnum long block today that has had a fresh rebuild, nothing at all wrong with it for $800. from one of my dads old friends. So i may be getting that pretty soon then, but i am still thinking about going carburated on that one too, summit has an air gap for the magnums for around $300 i think. I am thinking about keeping the over drive in it too, but i have the 42re, so can i still get it to work, or does it need to be and rh tranny to work w/o the computer?

.060" is OK, but anything more and you'll have heat issues. The walls get pretty darn thin.

OTOH, oldpoly-head 318's could probably go twice that. Those things have so much friggin' iron.

so if that is already .060 over what would be the cubes in that engine? that seems to be like the cylinder walls would be like paper thin and you'd end up cracking the block.

I dont know the cubes.... the walls are pretty thin and the water jackets are orange with rust already, so this one is getting scrapped. I should be getting the magnum next week, unless i find someting better at the swap meet this weekend!

The older 318's could take .060 over up to about 1973.the late 70's and 80's motor they say not to bore more than 040 but I've bored them .060 and not had problems(lucky maybe) I've bored the 5.2 and 5.9 magnums .040 and ran them a bunch of miles with no problems but they say not to exceed .040 with those blocks. If you need a 318 block I've got a 1970 that I will give you if you want it.Maybe take the guts out of your .060 block and throw them in there. Its located in Louisville Ky. The crosswind intakes will fit both blocks and are almost identical to the performer RPM airgap except for the water neck location
