Default 4.7L in 1st Gen?

Has anyone tried this? Either a 4.7L or new Hemi small block from a RAM into a 1st gen. Dakota? If so, any advice or tricks to do it? I would love to get a 4.7L flexible fuel or a 5.7L hemi with MDS into my '92 Dakota 4x4. Updated drivetrain and engine control electronics would be sweet. [8D]

Yea, that'd be a lot of work.
Better be confident you can modify stuff, and in your wiring skills.
A lot of wiring, actually. Since the 4.7L and 5.7L both incorporate electronically controlled transmissions, "electronic" dashboards (meaning, in order to display information, the dash needs to communicate with the computer, and the computer needs to communicate with the dash), as well as the other odds and ends.
I have no doubt it can be done, just a lot of time and modifications.

But no, I haven't heard of any one trying that. Of course, doesn't mean it hasn't been done.

Not if you find a a late model rollover. The new 2008 4.7L is much better than the previous versions. Also, the engineers had to "detune" it, or it would have had more HP than the 5.7L Hemi. Can't have that says marketing. Who would pay for the higher priced Mexican made option with less HP? Just because of the name? I know there will soon be aftermarket stuff that will make this new 4.7L a stout motor. Now, I need to find a 2008 Dakota 4x4 with the 4.7L that has rolled. Maybe this snow outside will soon yield one? You do know it now has 16 spark plugs, right? Totally redesigned heads and intake. Oh, and I worked in the Huntsville Electronics plant for 17 years, so the wiring and stuff I know. It would be welding in new motor mounts, etc. that would give me fits.

Personally, I think they should have let it come out with more HP and make the Hemi guys show more of their stuff. Which, BTW they will in about 2 years. The next gen. Hemi going in the SRTs will have over 500 hp. Another tidbit. If ya want a Grand Cherokee with a 4.7L, you better get one now. To be discontinued. FYI.

wait a few months and and drop in a 3.0 turbo diesel and tranny from a rolled grand cherokee. if your going to do all that work make it last. either way it's a pile of work. go 318 or 360 if you can find one, should be a straight bolt up.
