Default RE: i did it!!! gas mileage!!!

I get 23-24 highway. 96 3.9l ext cab slt.

Correction!!! I have to appologize the show was about the tail gates being up or down, but not the tonneau covers. I have done my bed both ways and i prefer not tonneau. it turns a truck into a car with a really big trunk. But i did get better milage after i took mine off and before i loaded it with tools.

I think I've got all of you beat..... The last road trip I took, I went to Cedar point, in Sandusky, Ohio from Detroit, MI. Set the cruise at 73 and averaged 27mpg round trip. Almost 500 miles round trip, 200ish each way. 94, 5.2. Don't ask me how, she's bone stock except for the exhaust. The old one fell off... no joke.

Sorry, but I have a very hard time believing you got 27 mpg at 73 mph. Anything above 60 and the milage on these trucks falls on its face. Are you 100% sure your speedometer and trip meter are accurate?

Last all highway trip I took with my truck I got 16.5 averaging 60 mph and I kept my foot out of it the whole time. Now I have oversized tires for the gearing I have and my truck sits very tall (horrible wind resistance), but back when it was bone stock the best I ever saw it get was 18.5.

Less than 10 going easy?!?! I average 14.5 driving the hell out of it! I've never gotten less than 13.5 as long as I've owned it.

Holy crap! Thats only 137 miles. My truck right now (its empty) has 284 miles on the trip meter.

You need to start looking for a problem, because that is not normal at all! You should consider replacing the 02 sensor, MAP sensor, TPS, ECT, and IAT in that order one at a time and see what helps.

Maybe it's that Canadian gas?

I would average 12-13 city, and 16-18 highway (speed dependent). Something like that.

Lol, my truck has a ton of ***** too! I've had it pulling over 5500 lbs over 70 mph one time, but it still gets fair gas milage.
