Places like UTAH is 85 octane because of the altitude. Which I have used 85 octane at sea level and the fuel mileage was 2mpg better then using 87. Why they don't use 85 everywhere is beyond me.

the only reason is this was back in 89 big guy, so i don't know if it changed since then. from your info things are still the same. just a lot of guys in this forum ask "did you get your gas from Canada" and i don't understand why because ours is pretty clean.

you guys are getting nailed down there this winter, i watch to see what happens there so i know whats coming. been lucky so far everything you got has gone out to sea before it gets to us. got the feeling are luck is about to run out!

i should ad that i got around 20 mpg with 3.90 gears. that makes a difference. most of you guys are running 3.55 and should have better mileage.

20-22 wasn't uncommon for my 5.2. I would get almost 300 miles on a tank unless I got a heavy foot, then it was around 220. I only had Headman headers, 3" exhaust, high flow converter, no muffler, 3.55 rear end with a locker, and Jacobs Ignition as mods. Hell, I didn't replace the starter on that thing until after 200K. Alternator was at 175k. Always ran Castrol synthetic 5w50, Champion truck plugs, and most of the time it got 92 octane fuel from whichever gas station was closest. I went over and beyond on my maintenance.

Sorry, I'm just very skeptical, cause that seems too unreal. Tell us about the setup you have, cause if you are calculating the accurate milage, I want to know what you have. What tires are you running and what size are they? What rear end gears do you have? What kind of gas do you fill up with? Ect.
It's a stock 318, washable air filter, 235/75/15 trail guide tires. Stock rear end(3.90 if the tag is correct), no bed cover, the factory exhaust rusted out and fell off(not kidding, I had to stop and pick it up off the road). I replaced it with some 2 3/4 pipe, and a Dynomax muffler. Still has cats and its a single exhaust. Tire pressure maintained at 32psi. I run premium(91-93 octane). Tank capacity is 20 gallons.

If my truck was metric(km) I would get passed left and right at 75km/h(46.6 mph) on the highway. If the speedometer reads in mph, then the odometer reads in miles. According to the Dodge dealer I went to, there are no mixed instrument displays for any mopar vehicle. And like I said before, from Detroit to Sandusky, OH(350 miles round trip), I filled up before I left, and filled up when I got back. I didn't need to stop for gas at any point during the trip. I ended up putting about 14 gallons back in the tank when I got home.

I understand your disbelief, I was shocked too. But those are the numbers. Oh yeah, Miles driven/fuel burned.

I have 144,000 on my '93, and I'm averaging 12.5-15.0 mpg depending on the week. I'm pretty sure the fan clutch stays engaged too long, and the fuel filter needs to be changed, and I need to install the Flowmaster muffler that I bought for my '92, but never installed. I'm also going to try and swap intakes with my Grandpa (he bought my '92 and it had the K&N FIPK on it).
