RE: 360 dakoa
Your 304 was an AMC motor. AMCand Dodge bothmade a 360, your 360 was undoubtedly an AMC (I have one in my Jeep). Both engines are totally different from Dodge small blocks and won't bolt into a Dakota. On the other hand, a Dodge small block will. In any case, a 5.2 Magnum to a 5.9 Magnum is pretty much a bolt in swap, and that is a future plan of mine. Now if you want to put an older engine in, that's a possibility too, but going from electronic port injection and roller cam to carb and flat tappet is a big step in the wrong direction. A V6 to V8 swap would be a little more involved.

Looking @ similar issues. Have 91 5.2 w/auto....217,000 miles.....still purrs but using oil. Reading through the posts last night it appears the 5.9 RT would be a fairly easy swap. Was wondering tho....I have the tbi instead of mpi like on the RT. What kind of problems will I run into here?

RE: 360 dakoa
For you rob1957 you dont have a magnum engine. you got the LA style. You could put the 5.9rt engine but alot of work with custom motormouts and changing the heads to keep stock injection. or you can add the multiport injection to your truck. Your best option is geting a 360 from a premagum ram.(90-back, I belive.)As far as I know those are still a simple swap. Check out http://www.allpar.com/mopar/318.htmlfor all the info you need on thetwo diffent engine syles.

I was ready to put my 360 in my 88 then I realized that a diesel is alot better and alot easier. I got a 3.9 I4 cummins for acouple hundred bucks and a complete rebuild kit for it is only $500. then I'm gonna twin turbo and intercool it. I should be getting around 50psi of boost. I'm gonna go find a 5 speed manual tranny with a racing clutch. and get a new rear end. and I will still get 25+mpg vs a built 360 that gets 12mpg tops.
