Default What are the common tranny problems?

I have heard from half a million people that dodge is known for their transmission problems and failures. Thankfully i have not had any so far but I am curious what is the most common problem they might be talking about?

-Are there any symptoms i should be aware of or looking for so I can prevent any major overhaul outside of keeping the fluid full, filter clean, and not stomping on the gas pedal? The biggest concern of mine is that I live in Wisconsin and I worry that all the slipping and sliding that happens when I am stuck in a snow bank or plowed in. All the rocking and spinning might cause excessive wear that it was not designed to handle when coming from the factory.

Any ideas?

Common fact an auto tranny will fail someday. Only thing to add to your list is to flush the fluid when changing it. There is only a couple of quarts if that in the pan that gets changed when doing a filter and fluid change. If you flush all the fluid out about 8-10 qts. you are replacing all the fluid, costs about $100. Also if you have it done at a trany shop you can have the bands adjusted when doing the above.

One thing I can tell you NOT to do is get talked into putting a check valve in your trans line. What happens is the line pressure bleeds off during the night and the next day your trans slips momentarily when you first put it in gear. So that's where the check valve comes in as it keeps the line pressure up during the night but IT WILL FAIL at some point and will cook every hard part in the trans and turn them blue. Just put you tranny in neutral for a moment before you put it gear to bring the line pressure up.
