well damn....
So I just went to the gas station because my low light came on at 164 miles.... I thought it was BS, or either someone else was syphaning gas out of my tank because now I am getting 10 mpg.... This fricken sucks, I have no idea what can be causing such ****ty gas miles. Air filter has been changed, spark plugs seem fine, wires were changed last year. The only thing else I can think of is I have remote start on it, but I dont let it run no more than 10 mins before I drive it. I do know that cold air will have an effect but before I was getting 16-18mpg and I was complaining then...
that is what happened when my o2 sensor went bad... try running the self diagnostic by turning your key on and off three times and count the flashes of the check engine light, you can do a search for a better explanation and what all of the codes mean
keep in mind whenyou have the climate controll on defrost the ac compressor will still cycle. even if you have the blower truned off. If you have vent visors on your windows you can, after your truck warms up, crack the window a little and turn the heater to floor. This will pull more air in through your vents and keep you warm without fogging up your windows. Car manufacturersknow the ac will draw out moisture and reduce fog better in stop and go traffic but at traveling speed turn it off and crack the window a little. Fresh air is cheaper than paying for the ac to do the work. Here is a picture of todays weather. this is a 1/4 inch of ice. We are expecting another 1 of ice over the next 24 hrs

Damn do you live near chicago!? Thats were I am from, nah I dont ever move the slider, its either all the way cold or all the way hot. And crackin the windows open always does help good call on that one, didnt think about running it to the floor either good call again.
I did what you sad Bad and I got a lot of flashes so it got me worried a little bit, I thought the light would just come on if there was a problem. So I am goin to check out what those light patterns translate too.

if it flashes 5 times, then pauses, then flashes 5 times more, thats code 55 which means there are no trouble codes.
Running the remote start and letting it warm up for ten minutes or less WILL cause a significant drop in gas mileage. I had it on my Blazer and during the winter my MPG went from 18 to 12 cause I would let it warm up and defrost every morning

I'm aslo thinking it could be my Thermostat because I changed it last year when I did the water pump and they only had a really low temp one in stock and the temp gauge doesnt move past about 1/8 I would say. So I wonder since it might not reach operating temp that the computer will make it run rich all the time.
Where is a good place to check what the codes mean besides the book, cuz im going to check all data at work if I cant find anything.

any single defect like a thermostat or O2 sensor will not cause that big of a drop in gas mileage. if youve lost ten MPG's out the window its a combination of things. before you go throwing parts that you dont know if they have failed or not, try not running the remote start for one full tank and see what difference that makes. Also use good gas! Chevron and Shell have given my truck the best results. if your mileage is still crap then you may have some runability issues.
One other thing that comes to mind is if your state has switched to a winter blend of gasoline (higher conecntration of ethanol/lower evap point) your MPG's will go down as well.
