Anybody know if its better to drive around with the tailgate open or closed for better gas milage? just thought about it today, and i dont have a bed cover.

 

I think mythbuster proved driving with the tailgate up gives you better milege idk though somebody told me that.

 

This is correct. The reason is that with the box closed up, it creates a pocket of air and the oncoming air just slides over. Leaving the tailgate down actually creates a lot of turbulance in the box.

a soft tonneau cover might help. lighter than a hard one.

 

Well i do pretty much all city driving and i m thinking that with the mythbusters you had to be at a certain speed for the pocket of air to biuld in the bed..and i am looking at tonneau covers, i think they will be the best for any kid of driving

 

I like tonneau covers, it keeps all the crap outta your bed too.
