Check your oil, does it look funny? could be an intake leak, water pump could be starting to leak, or worst case you have a blown head gasket.

kind of a dumb thought but..when you put it in, was the engine hot or cold? when its cold the level is lower, when its hot it could read full cause it expands so depending on the engines heat it could be that you put it in at different times?

Is your oil look milky?

Your best bet is to pressure test it. You may be able to borrow one from a parts store.

There is so many places it can be leaking from. Bypass hose, radiator, the resivoir itself.... pressurizing it will allow you to watch for a leak and pinpoint where it is leaking from.

there are water jackets that go though the cam chain cover. the gasket that seales the cover to the block could have blown out very common on the 3.9, 5.2, and the 5.9, easy way to tell is to tighten the bolts on the water pump sence it monts on the cam cover. if they are some what lose then the gasket blew out.

I am having the same issue with mine. Oil is not cloudy though. I can see it is leaking from the rear of the engine as drops collect underneath the frame. I have checked the hoses going into the cab, water pump seems OK. All connections don't appear to leak. What could possibly be leaking from the rear? If it were a bad head gasket, wouldn't I have rough idle and poor performance? My Dakota runs fine, just losing coolant. I don't hear bubblingthough. I can smell the coolant when I get out of the truck, but I hear no hissing or see any vapor. I can only see the leak when the engine cools down. I can never see any dripping or collecting while up to temp. Any ideas? Where would a pressure tester connect to? Does it fit in place of the radiator cap?

A pressure tester replaces the radiator cap. It looks almost like a bike pump, you pump it up to the correct pressure (15-17 lbs) this allows you to have the engine off, but still have pressure in the cooling system so that you can watch for leaks and pinpoint where it may be coming from.
