What tool manual tranny drain plug 1991?
Hi--
I just bought a 1991 Dodge Dakota, 4 cylinder in-line, with a grindy manual transmission.
I'm having trouble finding the correct tool to loosen the fill plug on the tranny. It looks like a Torx-55 but has 8 splines instead of 6. I haven't found any such tool online, at auto parts stores, or at Sears. What gives? Is this a tool I'll have to get from a dealer? Or should I just get a larger hex socket for the outside of the plug and forget about the spliney part?
Thanks
Doug

Got it off with a 1-3/16" six-point socket and some swearing. Transmission was pretty dry-- doh! It still makes a lot of noise with oil, so it's trashed.
I'm waiting for a repair manual in the mail, and then will see about swapping trannies and replacing the rear oil seal on the engine. It would also be helpful to have a working fuel gauge, or at least a working low gas light. I'll be back with more questions for sure. Thanks!
